Objective
To design two book cover utilizing the principle of type/image relationships while considering visual elements such as scale, proportion, contrast, and context. Of the two-book cover, one must be image dominant and the other text dominant.
Context
The Corrections is a novel written in 2001 by the author, Jonathan Franzen, and was in Oprah's Book Club for the month of September. The novel revolves around an elderly Midwestern couple and their three adult children reuniting together for "one last Christmas" before the turn of the millennium. The novel shows the point of view of four of the family members and what happened in each of their lives up until the point when they meet up for Christmas. One of the major themes in the novel revolves around family.
Sketches

Color Palette and Type

Digital Iterations
After sketching, I decided to go along with the theme on family and focused on digitalizing the sketches with the plates for the image dominant cover. I played around with the shape of the broken plate and from there, I incorporated the broken plates into the type dominate cover. During that process, I played around with the colors to create a homey kind of mood.
